Dear Friends,

As many of us know, this past week was marked by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen of Canada. She was Canada’s longest-serving Head of State and the longest-serving British monarch. During the many decades of her reign, which bore witness to countless significant historical events and changes, Her Majesty unwaveringly and committedely continued to fulfill her duties, to serve the people, and to engage in charity work.

My deepest condolences go to the Royal Family on this tragic event.

At the same time, I congratulate King Charles III upon his ascension to the throne, and wish him great success in perpetuating the legacy of his mother.

Healthcare in Eglinton-Lawrence

This Monday, I joined the Premier of Ontario, the Minister for Seniors and Accessibility, the Minister of Long-Term Care and other colleagues for a visit to Baycrest Centre. Baycrest Centre is home to one of the world’s top research institutes in cognitive neuroscience and operates Canada’s largest national dementia research initiative. The government of Ontario is committed to supporting medical research and innovation in our province and to ensuring that Ontarians have access to the care they need.

Supporting Education in Eglinton-Lawrence

I am pleased to announce this week that the renovation to Baycrest Public School (formerly Sir Sandford Fleming School) in Eglinton-Lawrence is now complete and will be welcoming new students through its doors this September for the 2022-23 school year. This project is a part of Ontario’s ongoing efforts to build and improve local schools, with the province providing Toronto DSB with $7.5 million to complete the renovation in North York.
The Government of Ontario is delivering more than $26.6 billion in education funding for the 2022-23 school year, including an increase of over $600 million this September, which is the highest investment in public education in Ontario’s history.

Ontarians Aged 18+ Eligible for Bivalent COVID-19 Booster Dose

Based on guidance from Health Canada and the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI), the Ontario government is offering the bivalent COVID-19 booster dose to all Ontarians aged 18 and over, beginning with the most vulnerable populations.

“The bivalent COVID-19 booster is a safe and effective way for people to better protect themselves against the most recently circulating COVID-19 variants in Ontario,” said Dr. Kieran Moore, Chief Medical Officer of Health. “As vaccine protection decreases over time, I encourage all Ontarians aged five and over to receive the booster dose they are eligible for.”

Bivalent COVID-19 booster appointments are available to and can be booked for the most vulnerable populations, including:

  • individuals aged 70 and over;
  • residents of long-term care homes, retirement homes, Elder Care Lodges and individuals living in other congregate settings that provide assisted-living and health services;
  • First Nation, Inuit and Métis individuals and their non-Indigenous household members aged 18 and over;
  • moderately to severely immunocompromised individuals aged 12 and over;
  • pregnant individuals aged 18 and over; and
  • health care workers aged 18 and over.
