Dear Friends,

Our Annual BBQ at the Columbus Centre last Sunday was a great success! As always, it was amazing to meet in person and catch up with so many constituents of Eglinton-Lawrence and to enjoy together the sunny weather, the great music and the excellent food. Thank you to all the residents for coming out, to all the volunteers for helping and to the Villa Charities for providing the space. Special thank you to the Hon. Stephen Lecce for joining: it was a privilege to have you with us!

Last week I was also honored to join my colleagues and representatives of the Ukrainian community at Queen’s Park for the ceremony of raising the flag of Ukraine, marking the country’s 31st year of Independence. The Province of Ontario will continue to stand with the Ukrainians here in Ontario and across the globe and to support them in their fight for freedom and peace.

Supporting Innovation and Research

The government of Ontario continues to support innovation in our province through delivering funding for research projects at universities and hospitals. This past week, the Ministry of Colleges and Universities announced several such investments that will support researchers in making discoveries that advance knowledge, drive progress and create jobs for the people of Ontario.

This funding will be used to cover the costs of research operations and to support researchers to attract and retain research talent. These latest investments include:

  • $1,540,000 for 11 research projects at the University of Toronto. The funding is being delivered through the Early Researcher Awards project.
  • $140,000 for 1 research project at the University Health Network. The funding is being delivered through the Early Researcher Awards project.
  • $140,000 for 1 research project at Unity Health Toronto. The funding is being delivered through the Early Researcher Awards project.
  • $140,000 for 1 research project at The Hospital for Sick Children. The funding is being delivered through the Ontario Research Fund project.

Accessible Parking Permit Services Now Available Online

The Ontario government is making it easier, faster, and more convenient for Ontarians with accessibility needs to use Accessible Parking Permits. People with accessibility needs are now able to apply for, renew, and replace lost or stolen Accessible Parking Permits online, from the comfort of home.

Organizations and not-for-profits supporting disabled Ontarians will also be able to take advantage of this full suite of online services to address their APP needs anytime, anywhere.

This is a major step forward to making services more accessible to the public and organizations supporting those with disabilities, making life easier by saving them time and reducing needless paperwork.

Previously, this could only be done in-person or by mail, taking weeks and requiring needless and time-consuming travel. Organizations and not-for-profits supporting disabled Ontarians can now use the time and resources they would otherwise spend applying or renewing APPs to instead directly support their community members.

For detailed instructions on how to apply online, please click here.

Convenience Store Week in Ontario

This week marks the second official Convenience Store Week in Ontario – an opportunity to recognize convenience stores across the province and celebrate their hard-working employees. Ontario’s 8,500 convenience stores play an integral role in their local communities every day, providing Ontarians with daily necessities. The dedicated employees in the convenience store sector work around the clock to ensure their stores are open and ready to serve customers, particularly when they do not have access to other retail options.

To show our gratitude for this important sector, we encourage you to visit a convenience store in your community and share the following messages and social content throughout the week.
